Lesson 3 • I Can Pray to Heavenly Father

MAIN IDEA

I can talk to Heavenly Father in prayer. I can thank Him and ask Him to bless me and my family.

BRING

• Picture of Jesus praying and picture of a child praying

• “We Thank Thee” bag with simple items or pictures

• “Please Bless Us” bag and Jesus picture on page 106

SAY IT SIMPLY

“Our Heavenly Father …”

“We thank Thee …”

“Please bless us … in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.”

LESSON FLOW

1. Show pictures  Show Jesus praying and a child praying. Say: “When we pray, we are talking to Heavenly Father.” Practice saying, “Our Heavenly Father.”

2. Thank Him  Let a child pull an item from the “We Thank Thee” bag. Say: “We thank Thee for our ___.” Repeat with several items.

3. Ask for blessings  Use the “Please Bless Us” bag. Say: “Please bless us with ___.” Let the children repeat, “Please bless us.”

4. End the prayer  Show Jesus on page 106 and say: “We end our prayers by saying, ‘In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.’” Practice together.

5. Finger verse  Do the four-part prayer verse: Dear Heavenly Father / thank Him / ask Him / in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

6. Practice & close  Say a very short class prayer pattern together. Remind the children: “I can pray to Heavenly Father.”
